Cathedral City teen accused in shooting

CATHEDRAL CITY, Calif. -

A 17 year-old is facing attempted murder charges and weapons violations after police say he opened fire on a vehicle occupied by three people.

Police say the victim's vehicle was driving by the suspect at 5:30 a.m. Thursday on the 33100 block of Via De Anza. The victims vehicle was hit by a bullet and the suspect fled on foot.

The victims say they knew the suspect.

Investigators watched the juvenile suspect's house and later that same night he was stopped for investigation as he was walking with two others near his residence.

When the officers approached the suspect they discovered a loaded small handgun hidden in the sleeve of his hoodie.  He dropped it when the officers started to pat him down for weapons.

The suspect was booked for attempted murder and weapons violations at juvenile hall.
