CATHEDRAL CITY, Calif. -

A Cathedral city man was killed Monday after he was struck by a driverless car.

Police said an unoccupied vehicle hit Jose Monjaras, 48, yesterday afternoon when it rolled down a driveway then across the street. The vehicle came to rest in the front yard of a residence.

The deadly incident happened at 2 p.m. along the 67000 block of Peineta road. Monjaras was taken to Desert Regional Medical Center in Palm Springs with severe injuries.  

He was pronounced dead at the hospital an hour later.
