TWENTYNINE PALMS, Calif. -

Joshua Tree National Park is being forced to shut down after lawmakers failed to come up with a deal on the budget last night.

A government shutdown is now in effect for the first time in nearly 20 years.

The park is shutting down along with hundreds of parks around the country and museums and landmarks in Washington.

The park will shut down at 8 a.m. Tuesday. Campground officials will give campers in the park a 48-hour notice to find new lodging.

Only 15 staffers will maintain the park after those 48 hours are up.
