PALM SPRINGS, Calif. -

A four-day festival for authors who write about gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender themes and characters starts tomorrow in Palm Springs.

Casitas Laquita Resort will host the seventh annual LGBTQ Book Festival, which features almost 30 authors from around the country and abroad. The authors will do readings and sign their books at the free festival, which starts at 12:30 p.m.

The Palm Springs Public Library will host author events Friday and Saturday.

On Friday at 6 p.m., a roundtable will feature authors Justine Saracen, Kathy Knowles, Robin Silverman, M.L. Rice, Barbara Ann Wright and Julie Cannon.

On Saturday at 4 p.m., authors will discuss "Gay Male Fiction: Yesterday, Today, Tomorrow," with Felice Picano, David-Matthew Barnes, Ken O'Neill, Eric Andrews-Katz and Joel Gomez-Dossi.

The rest of the festival's events will be at Casitas Laquita, 450 E. Palm Canyon Drive.

The festival was started in 2007 by Joanna Funaro and Denise Roberson, proprietors of the Casitas Laquita Resort. Today, they organize the festival with Bold Strokes Books and other Palm Springs groups.
