PALM SPRINGS, Calif. -

Four people were out of their home late Wednesday night after a house fire which may have killed two pets.

Firefighters were called to Cardillo Road near Racquet Club Drive at just before 11:30 p.m.

They found flames and smoke billowing from one room.

Crews contained the blaze within 15 minutes time.

A Palm Springs Fire Department Battalion Chief, Jason Loya, told News Channel 3, "One bedroom was damaged with flames spreading to another room."  Loya said, "There was smoke and heat damage to the rest of the home."

One person was hospitalized for injuries from minor smoke inhalation.

The residents said they were looking for two cats that may have died in the fire.

Firefighters said they saved some pets including a dog, a cat and a bird.

The fire's cause was under investigation Thursday morning.
