Flash Flood Watch in effect for Coachella Valley and surrounding areas

THOUSAND PALMS, Calif. -

The National Weather Service has issued a Flash Flood Watch for the Coachella Valley and it's surrounding mountain areas. It will remain in effect until Sunday evening at 8 pm.

FLOOD WATCH
NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE SAN DIEGO CA
443 AM PDT SAT AUG 2 2014

...THUNDERSTORMS WITH HEAVY RAIN TODAY AND THIS EVENING COULD PRODUCE
FLASH FLOODING IN THE MOUNTAINS AND DESERTS...

.A LOW PRESSURE SYSTEM MOVING FROM BAJA CALIFORNIA INTO SOUTHERN
CALIFORNIA WILL CREATE SHOWERS AND THUNDERSTORMS OVER THE REGION.
SOME OF THE THUNDERSTORMS IN THE MOUNTAINS AND DESERTS WILL
GENERATE VERY HEAVY RAINFALL...AND COULD PRODUCE FLASH FLOODING.
THUNDERSTORMS WILL BE MOST WIDESPREAD IN THE AFTERNOON...BUT SOME
THUNDERSTORMS WILL LIKELY CONTINUE SATURDAY NIGHT. THERE IS SOME
THREAT OF HEAVY RAIN LATE SATURDAY NIGHT AND SUNDAY AS WELL...AND
THE FLASH FLOOD WATCH MAY NEED TO BE EXTENDED BEYOND SATURDAY

  AREAS...APPLE AND LUCERNE VALLEYS...COACHELLA VALLEY...
  RIVERSIDE COUNTY MOUNTAINS...SAN BERNARDINO COUNTY MOUNTAINS...
  SAN DIEGO COUNTY DESERTS AND SAN DIEGO COUNTY MOUNTAINS.

* FROM 9 AM PDT THIS MORNING THROUGH THIS EVENING

* THUNDERSTORMS WITH HEAVY RAIN WILL DEVELOP OVER THE MOUNTAINS
  AND DESERTS SATURDAY AND CONTINUE INTO SATURDAY EVENING. FLASH
  FLOODING WILL BE POSSIBLE WHERE HEAVY RAIN OCCURS.

* HEAVY RAINFALL WILL PRODUCE RUNOFF THAT COULD LEAD TO FLASH
  FLOODS...ESPECIALLY ALONG MOUNTAIN STREAMS...DESERT WASHES AND
  RECENTLY BURNED AREAS.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

A FLASH FLOOD WATCH MEANS THAT CONDITIONS MAY DEVELOP THAT LEAD
TO FLASH FLOODING. FLASH FLOODING IS A VERY DANGEROUS SITUATION.

YOU SHOULD MONITOR LATER FORECASTS AND BE PREPARED TO TAKE ACTION
SHOULD FLASH FLOOD WARNINGS BE ISSUED.
