Things to do to celebrate Cinco de Mayo

PALM SPRINGS, Calif. -

Many events were held over the weekend in honor of Cinco de Mayo, but there are still many ways to celebrate the holiday on the official 5th of May in the Coachella Valley.

Some restaurant and bars are hosting special events to help you enjoy both Mexican and Mexican-American heritage.

Palm Springs Life highlights the following events taking place on Monday.

Las Casuelas Terraza in downtown Palm Springs will have mariachi music from lunch to the early evening. Also, the Tequila Hall of Fame, featuring over 75 varieties of tequila, mescal, and sotol, will be served by the shot or in a flight arranged by region, village, or distillation. Located at 222 S. Palm Canyon Drive, Palm Springs.

Don Diego's of Indian Wells, the party starts at 3 p.m. The first 200 people in the door get T-shirts and drink tickets. Mariachi bands and guitarist Johnny Gitar, prize giveaways, drink specials, and top-shelf tequila tastings by Young's Market. Located at 74969 Hwy. 111, Indian Wells.

El Jefe at The Saguaro. Celebrating Mexico City's culture and cuisine with award-winning chef Jose Garces. $5 margaritas and $2 tacos. El Jefe has close to 100 different tequilas. Located at 1800 E Palm Canyon Dr, Palm Springs.

The Show at Agua Caliente Casino • Resort • Spa welcomes popular stand-up comedian Gabriel “Fluffy” Iglesias at night. Look for mariachis on the gaming floor and Mexican dishes in the buffet line. Iglesias also performed the evenings of May 3, and 4.

Whatever you decide to do, if you're celebrating Cinco de Mayo, have a fun but safe time. Be sure to designate a driver or arrange for a safe ride if you're going out to drink.
