The Mayor's Race, Swim and Wellness Festival challenges residents to make healthy changes
Actress and author Suzanne Somers and fitness personalities Billy Blanks and Scott Cole will participate in the Mayor's Race, Swim and Wellness Festival in Palm Springs, a city spokeswoman said.
The event is scheduled for Saturday at Ruth Hardy Park, and includes fitness activities, a 1K "fun run'' for children, 5K and 10-mile runs for adults, and rock climbing. The Swim Challenge component, which is in the afternoon at the Palm Springs Swim Center, features various swimming events. More than 60 vendors will offer free health screenings, blood sugar tests and nutritional samples, according to city spokeswoman Amy Blaisdell.
"This event brings together the best examples for health, fitness and wellness to help families learn how to be more active, eat better and change the tide in the epidemic of childhood obesity,'' said Palm Springs Mayor Steve Pougnet. "We want to show the variety of options that are easily accessible right here in our community.''
The Mayor's Race, Swim and Wellness Festival is one of the events being held in connection with the Clinton Foundation's Health Matters conference and Humana Challenge golf tournament in La Quinta.
